- Start by looking at your I am poem, begin by pulling out key words
- choose at least 2 topics that you feel strongly about
- Create a simple mind map using free association and borrowed ideas
- Refine your list
3. Make a Decision
- Choose which images or symbols have the greatest resonance within you.

- Begin looking for references that are related to your subject matter.
- Begin looking for references that are related to your artistic style.
5. Refine your References
- Choose the references that you will use in your work, and print or make them easily accessible
6. Start exploring what you will do and what it will look like
- Make at least 4 sketches

- Include media and technique explorations
