We live in the age of the selfie. A fast self-portrait, made with a smartphone’s camera and immediately distributed and inscribed into a network, is an instant visual communication of where we are, what we’re doing, who we think we are, and who we think is watching.

In your opinion are selfies valuable or narcissistic?
Is there ever a time when it is inappropriate to take a selfie?
Are you ‘different’ in your selfies? How/why?
What is the difference between taking a selfie to convey meaning, versus using text and talking? (Snapchat)
When are selfies interesting, intriguing?
What makes you look at or share someone elses’ selfie?
How could a selfie be used to create change?
Is a selfie about you, the viewer, both…?
Are selfies an attempt to change how others see you?
Is the proliferation of selfies online affecting the way we interact with each other and/or our relationships?

- choose at least 2 topics that you feel strongly about
- Create a simple mind map using free association and borrowed ideas

- Begin looking for references that are related to your subject matter.
- Begin looking for references that are related to your artistic style.
5. Refine your References
- Choose the references that you will use in your work, and print or make them easily accessible
6. Start exploring what you will do and what it will look like
- Make at least 4 sketches
- Make notes
- Include media and technique explorations

- Choose your best ideas and get ready to create!
