Course Objective:
This is a class that offers an opportunity for advanced students to work on individual technique and approaches in a structured class setting. It is an independent study with a classroom structure. You must be self-motivated and have a desire to create. Students will be assessed based on the number of finished pieces produced in a specific time and participation in class critiques. You must have successfully completed a level I class

1.1 Students recognize the elements of art and principles of design.

1.3 Students will understand reasons for making, using and the various functions of art and design

2.1 Students will reflect to understand their own creative process
2.2 Students will use art vocabulary and their experiences with art processes to develop their opinion about a specific artwork.

3.1 Students will identify and apply traditional, new art medias and technology to express ideas
3.2. Students will asses and produce art with various materials and methods

4.1 Students will recognize that historical and cultural viewpoints influence the way we understand works of art
4.2 Students will practice problem solving and critical thinking through planning designing and creating works of art
4.3 Students will recognize that art is a possible career path (awareness including fine art, commercial and art management)

Assessments:
Students who miss an assessment deadline may turn in their work on Google Classroom at anytime up until finals day with no penalties. However, no work will be accepted after the very last class, regardless of completion.
All assessments will be turned into Google Classroom along with a written reflection. The teacher will not accept physical work as final work. Any work that is turned in without a written reflection will receive an automatic 70%.
Students must work the entire class period. This class has many projects and if you choose to use your time poorly, you WILL fall behind. It is expected that you work up to 5 minutes before class lets out.
Cell Phones and Electronics Misuse
Students will use the district network in support of educational objectives and in a way that is consistent with the mission and curriculum of the St. Vrain Valley School District.
Please reference the district policy for more information.
In case of misuse:
1st offence: Teacher takes phone, keeps it in safe location, returns it after class.
2nd offence: Teacher takes phone, gives it to admin. Phone will be released to parent.
3rd offence: Repeat Step 2. Plus Behavior Phone Plan formulated with parents.
Classroom Behavior, Expectations and Policies:
All School rules will be enforced including but not limited to:
- Appropriate and Respectful Behavior
- Dress Code
- No Food or Drink
- Students will be asked to put away their electronic devices at appropriate times.
- Appropriate safety measures while in class
- Proper use, storage and clean up of all equipment and materials
- Supply closets and computers are off limits unless other stated
So, what happens when someone chooses to be disrespectful?
1st time: you will be asked to cease whatever you are doing.
2nd time: you will be moved to a different seat
3rd time: you will be moved outside the room
If you move from that spot….you will be sent to the office.
Don’t be the Example for the class!!!
Tardy Policy:
- You are expected to be in the room when the bell rings, if you arrive after the bell rings you are tardy. No exceptions.
- The School handbook states that if you are more than 15 minutes late you are considered ABSENT. You must go to the attendance office and get a pass. I will not allow you back into the class without a pass.
- 3 unexcused tardies equal one unexcused absence, and a phone call will be made home.
- After 9 unexcused absences you can be dropped from the class.
Policies for Absences and Make Up Work:
Students are strongly encouraged to see the teacher for make-up work or extra time.
Academic Integrity
Students must always do their own work, and are not allowed to copy from someone else work, this is considered plagiarism. If students choose to use photographs or other artistic works, for reference, enough modification must be made to it to constitute a complete new work
First offense at SCHS earns a ZERO. Teachers will CALL HOME and refer infraction to admin to enter into IC.
Second offense at SCHS earns a zero… PLUS out-of-school suspension.
Each subsequent offense = zero + OSS + student may be removed from Honors Society and academic clubs/programs + no recommendation letters + academic integrity infractions may be communicated to colleges + consequences for violating athletic conduct code.
Materials and Supplies Required for 2D Design:
There is a $25 required fee for this art classes at Silver Creek. Please return payment in the form of cash/check or electronic payment to the office. Silver Creek prefers payment using REVTRAK which can be found on the school website. Collection of all class fees will begin late September 2017. Please make checks payable to Silver Creek High School. All supplies and materials become the property of that student. Each student is responsible to keep up and maintain his or her supplies. If a student has an underlying conflict with the cost of the materials, it is the students’ responsibility to see the teacher to work out alternative arrangements. Students are expected to have their fee paid by November 1st .
