Objective: There are estimated 375000 species of plants, with more being discovered every year. Plants have been the subject of art for thousands of years. Did you know that the reason columns are fluted is because the ancient Egyptians crafted columns to look like reeds bundled together? Plants can be trees, bushes or weeds. They can be vines and vegetables or flowers.
You will create an artwork based on some sort of plant material. Careful attention should be paid to details and texture, along with structure. All drawings/paintings must be drawn from real life. Visit the grocery store or a home improvement store, go out into your back yard, forage around in the vegetable garden, look for interesting shapes, sizes, colors. Take a viewfinder and move in close to the plant and look for abstract shapes, and lines.
